About CPR and First Aid

CPR Training Photo

In the U.S., heart disease is the leading cause of death among men and women. More than 70% of cardiac arrests take place in the home. The chances of survival for these victims may rely on the bystander, making CPR training critical.

TMCC offers CPR training for all skill levels in order to better prepare rescuers in understanding the chain of survival, and improve survival outcome.

All courses are open to the public; you do not need to be enrolled as a TMCC student to register.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course is designed to train medical professionals working in pre-hospital and hospital settings. The Basic Life Support course prepares students to perform single rescuer CPR, as well as how to perform CPR in a team.

This course is recommended for individuals who may need to obtain certification as a prerequisite for any medical training course (for example: CNA, EMT, RN, CMA, etc.).

CPR Instructor

Note: this course is held approximately 4–6 times a year, depending on demand.

Are you interested in joining us in training the community? This class is designed to certify new incoming instructors. You must possess a current Basic Life Support certification prior to enrollment. After successful completion, you will obtain an American Heart Association Instructor Card, valid for two years. To maintain instructor status, you must teach at least 4 classes a year. It is recommended that prior to enrolling, you have an agency in which to teach.

Heartsaver®

The Heartsaver workshop is intended to certify those with little or no medical training, and to educate and train the general public. The Heartsaver course is also sometimes required by an employer if you are expected to respond in an emergency at your work place, or if you have an AED in your work place. Trades that may require this type of training include: security personnel, lifeguards, caregivers, teachers, coaches, electrical, manufacturing or construction. Or, you may simply be interested in learning CPR in the event of an emergency.

  • Heartsaver First Aid Module: Includes training in providing immediate care for an illness or injury before someone with more advanced training arrives. We cover first aid basics, as well as a variety of medical, environmental and injury emergencies.
  • Heartsaver CPR/AED Module: Covers adult, child and infant CPR. We learn how to recognize a victim of cardiac arrest, how to perform compressions, as well as how to provide breaths to the victim with or without a barrier device, and how to attach an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
